Kids Tricycle Safety

Parental Control
Tricycle safety begins with the parents. To ensure your child's safety, select a tricycle that is recommended for your child's age, size, and motor abilities. Most children do not have the coordination and motor skills to ride a tricycle until 24-32 months of age. For younger children, consider tricycles with push bars and locking mechanisms that allow parents to be in control.

Check consumer listings on tricycle safety, verify that finishes are lead-free, and make it a point to routinely check for recalls. The assembled tricycle should be sturdy, with a wide enough base to keep from tipping when the child turns corners, and there should be no sharp edges that can cause injuries.

The street should not be part of a child's tricycle-riding safety zone, unless parents are by their side. Driveways and parking lots can also be dangerous. Young children do not think before they make sudden movements, they are unfamiliar with the regulations and hazards of the road, and drivers cannot stop as quickly as children can dart in front of them. Children imitate adult actions, so set a good example, and talk to your child about tricycle and bicycle safety.

Teach Kids to Make Wise Choices
It is impossible to supervise children 24/7; but teach your child to make these wise decisions when it comes to tricycles riding and their riding gear.
